History


The University of Arizona Postdoctoral Association (UAPA) was formally established in 2017 to develop a framework of support for postdoctoral scholars (hereafter Postdocs), at the University of Arizona. The goals of UAPA are to facilitate networking, professional development and service/outreach opportunities for UA postdocs.
 
History/Timeline
  • September 2018 UAPA adds committees to the Executive Board 
  • September 2017 UAPA finishes and publishes v 1.0 of the UAPA Postdoc Handbook
  • November 2016 UAPA launches official website
  • September 2016 UAPA celebrates its first National Postdoc Appreciation week at UA.
  • June 2016 The UAPA Provisional Executive Board began the process of officially establishing the organization by drafting operational guidelines, gathering letters of support, creating a website, and organizing social and professional development events for postdocs.
  • December 2015 The University of Arizona Graduate Center hosted a Postdoctoral Scholar Reception.
  • October 2015 UA Postdocs created a Facebook group in order to connect with one another via social media.
  • September 2015 Jean-Marc Fellous, Associate Professor of Psychology, established professional development meetings for postdocs in the College of Science (Postdoc Place).

Connecting People

It can be hard to meet new people at a large university, especially if you're new to the area or even the country! One of the first events we organized was a happy hour for fellow Postdocs so that new connections and friendships could be made. Check out our social events on the Events calendar, or join the Facebook Group and come along to meet with us!

Developing Potential

In conjunction with the soon-to-be Postdoctoral Office at the UA, we aim to help Postdocs develop in their careers by organizing professional development activities. Whether it be a panel discussion on grants or writing workshops, there are always lots of things going on. Check out the Professional Development pages and the Events calendar. If there is something you would like to see organized that isn't going on then get in touch and let us know what would be helpful!

Supporting Careers

Whether this is your first Postdoc position or your third, we want to support you as you develop your career. We can help put you in touch with early career tenured staff or help point you in the right direction for grants and funding. Speak up and let us know what you need! One Voice

The National Postdoctoral Association advocates for Postdocs around the country, and we at UAPA are a unified voice for Postdocs at the UA. Do you have any concerns about your work or do you have suggestions as to how the university could improve the Postdoc experience? Let us know your thoughts and we can address them with the UA administration.
