A postdoctoral scholar may hold any of several possible designations. The two most common are: a) Postdoctoral Research Associate (PRA) and b) Designated Campus Colleague (DCC).

What is the difference between a PRA and a DCC?

A PRA appointment means that you are a University of Arizona (UA)-employed postdoc. This means that UA will pay for or subsidize insurance benefits, family benefits and wellness benefits. For a complete list of benefit options for UA-employed postdocs, click here.

A DCC appointment means that you are likely a recipient of a training grant stipend or fellowship stipend, such as the T32 or F32. You are not considered employed by the UA and are thus not benefits-eligible. It is advised that details and concerns such as health insurance coverage and other financial matters be communicated with your supervisor or your sponsoring department. If applicable, you are responsible for filing and paying your own taxes, as these are not automatically withheld from your pay. You may contact [email protected] or visit https://hr.arizona.edu/employees/dccs for more information.
